Central Oregon Swimming Holes

One of the best ways to beat the heat in Central Oregon is by going for a dip in a local swimming hole. Fortunately, Bend and the rest of Central Oregon offer plenty of options for its residents. Here are some of the best Central Oregon swimming holes to check out this summer:

Elk Lake

Located off the Cascade Lakes Highway, Elk Lake has a beautiful beach area and a great space for swimming. Word to the wise: this spot is popular, so get there early as parking can be cumbersome!

Devils Lake

Known for it’s majestic turquoise waters, Devil’s Lake is one of the many stunning lakes off of the Cascade Lakes Highway. It has it’s own parking area, a great path around the lake and much more. One thing to note, it’s fairly shallow and chilly, but a great place to cool off.

Suttle Lake and Scout Lake

You’ll be amazed at the clarity of the waters of Suttle Lake – but beware, it is cold! Scout Lake nearby is much warmer, as it’s shallower and has no outlet. Both a great option if you want to brave the cold temps.

Cultus Lake

Cultus Lake is gorgeous and a great place for recreational boating. This lake was formed by a glacier and is swim-friendly with gently sloping shores. Some say Little Cultus Lake is better for swimming, but don’t forget your bug spray as later in the summer bugs can come out to play.

Doris Lake

Doris Lake is a bit more secluded and can be reached on foot. There are several trails to choose from to get there. Be sure to bring your hammock, snacks, and beverages, it’s a great place to spend a day.

There’s nothing like cooling off in the water on a hot day. Thanks for reading, we hope you get to check out these swimming holes in Central Oregon this summer!
